When clients want to bring their indoor style to an outdoor living space for an active family, the challenge is to include all their desired amenities while complementing their yard and home. At Eagleson Meadows, our specialty is blending modern lifestyle with gorgeous, organic nature, creating a rich landscape that our clients can also comfortably live in. Over several years, we helped one of our clients in Carmel build their perfect outdoor living space that didn’t come up short on style, features or nature.
Our clients first brought us in for a small landscaping project, but our role expanded as they needed help reshuffling their backyard. They wanted to add a fire pit, but with their existing two-level deck and hot tub, they were finding it difficult to create a layout that made sense. We ended up building a new paver patio area as a transition from the deck to the fire pit, creating more space for our clients to enjoy the fire.
The vision our clients had for their backyard changed overtime, and we began a year-long conversation about future plans that included installing a pool and building an outdoor kitchen. We kept the patio areas to one side of the yard, preserving as much turf as possible for their kids to play on, and for accessibility and space to build future additions. We advised them on pool placement as well. Finally, we partnered with their contractor to create an outdoor kitchen space, laying down a paver patio under a pergola structure.
The new layout formed a long narrow space between the patio and pool. Bill is always watching for the perfect spots to put water features, and he found an opportunity! We created a pondless stream with the water starting under a rock bridge and flowing down through rugged boulders to a hidden basin where it recirculates.
A hallmark of a quality landscape design is cohesion. The many components of this backyard had to be tied together in order to look like they all belong! Scattering weathered sandstone boulders throughout the front yard, surrounding the fire pit, and lining the stream did the trick. We even incorporated a sandstone jumping board for the pool, as our clients did not want the water depth a diving board would require. Around the pool and patio, we did plantings that would provide lots of summer color and year-round privacy.
Working closely with our clients and their contractors, we used our creativity and experience to help them fit all these features into one gorgeous outdoor living space, creating room for fun and activities while also incorporating natural elements.
