This has been a month filled with trouble and sadness around the world. I would like to bring back some of the happiness lost to tragedy and introduce you to a plant that you may be surprised fits perfectly into your landscape! This week’s Plant of the Week is the Hardy Waterlily and more specifically Nymphaea ‘Colorado’.

This “tropical” waterlily is in my experience by far the most hardy and rewarding of the waterlilies available on the market. It requires full sun and water to grow in, and once you have it established it will reward you magnificently with a constant stream of peach colored blooms all growing season. The flowers are held up above the water for your viewing pleasure and have a slight fragrance. What if you do not have a water feature in your yard? Well first of all I recommend you look into one, but if you simply are not interested, waterlilies can be grown in pots on any patio or deck. Simply make sure you are using a pot that holds water and provide it with a medium to grow in, like gravel. Eagleson Landscape Co. has been doing this for years with no problem!

Putting gardening aside, I would like to make a brief statement about the painful acts we have witnessed over the last weeks, months and years. A world centered on not the betterment of mankind but the betterment of ones own desires. When our own beliefs cloud the clarity of reality and bring man to act against what is right. During these times, we all need to take some time and evaluate ourselves and the tragedies that surround us. Visit those things that bring permanent happiness, like gardening.
