Does anyone else feel like its Fall already?  This mild weather is throwing me off.  I keep looking for pumpkin patches, colored leaves and sweaters.  What a crazy summer its been this year!  I am not planning on mother nature being so kind next year though!  Keeping that in mind, this weeks plant of the week is perfect for  the typical hot dry summers Indiana often offers up to its residents.  This week we are going to talk about Sedum.

Sedum, for me, is a plant seemingly out of place.  Ever since I was a little boy I have thought it looked like it belonged in a desert rather than here in the Midwest.  However, though its appearance may be suspect, it is perfect for our area.  Sedum come in many different shapes and sizes making it easy to fit into any garden, especially rock gardens.  The tall varieties stand out in a landscape due to the plants unique foliage and large blooms.  The short varieties provide a great ground cover option when tucked in among rocks.  The flowers come in reds, pinks, yellows and whites and bloom in late summer to early fall.  Being low maintenance and drought tolerant provide added bonuses to this already wonderful species.
