Looks like we just skipped winter this year and went straight back into spring.  I am not complaining about this 80 degree weather in November, but I am wondering what mother nature has up her sleeve.  She is NEVER this nice to the Hoosier state.  Thankfully this week we were able to work in the shade and protect our winter ready skin from getting burned.  This weeks Plant of the Week is in honor of the life saving shade we received this week.  We are going to talk about a perennial that loves shade, the Astilbe or the False Spirea!

False Spirea are some of the best shady garden perennials you can find.  They are easily recognized by their upright plumes that proudly stand above a unique fern like foliage.  Great as an accent in a garden and perfect to pair with other shade loving plants, due to their unique foliage and flowering.  False Spirea are found in whites, pinks and purples and different varieties bloom at different times of the flowering season.  The hundreds of hybrids available make it easy to find one that will fit into your landscape!  Getting the most out of your new Astilbe is done by providing it with early morning sunlight, evenly moist soil and fertilization.
