I’ve met with a couple clients the past few weeks, who think having a shady landscape means you are stuck with a dismal, bland yard.  Though shade landscapes may not support many of the common bright sun loving flowers we see.  These yards can possess an equal or superior beauty.  In fact Eagleson Landscape Co’s owner has used shade loving plants for years in his personal garden!  Speaking of our beloved leader and friend, Bill has been in Maryland this week designing and installing a landscape, leaving us jealous and heart broken.  Though we have kept everything here in Indiana on course our hearts have been bleeding with dismay since his departure.  These heart wrenching emotions are the key to this weeks plant of the week, the Bleeding Heart.  Now if my extremely corny lead in did not turn you away lets jump into learning about this shade lover!
Bleeding hearts are unique looking woodland plants that will brighten up your shady landscape.  A mounding growth habit and stunning, arching blooms make Lamprocapnos spectabilis a wonderful addition to a landscape.  Flowers come in yellow, pink, red and white and blooms in the spring, but will bloom some throughout the summer if given proper care. To care for them simply keep the soil moist around them, the direct sun off and mulch around them.  It is that easy!  These deer resistant plants will be happy and beautiful in your shady yard.
