When most people think of decks, they often think of wood or composite materials. But within the last few years, we have started to use a very new option: the paver deck.
Paver deck systems work with any deck frame, either existing or newly built. Then, instead of wood planks for the surface, we install concrete paver material shaped like boards. And, in our opinion, it can be difficult to tell the difference.
The installation process involves laying down a black honeycomb-designed silica decking base on top of a frame, followed by either gator mat or fabric liner which acts as a cushion to prevent cracking. The pavers are then laid over the top as the final layer. The paver can be any style, but we like using varieties molded to look like aged oak wood.
The result is stunning. The pavers look just like a reclaimed wood deck surface, or if you choose another style, just like a patio surface. In addition to the great aesthetics, a paver deck will be more durable than wood in the long run. The material is sturdier and can be sealed to prevent staining. Similar to other decking materials, it is not perfect. Pavers will chip or crack with use over a long period. However, they will require less maintenance than wood to keep your deck looking fresh.
This new system opens possibilities for homeowners looking for more durable choices, or just a unique look for their backyard. Use the pavers on a deck alone, or pair it with a matching patio. Whichever you choose, the quality of the construction or design shouldn’t change with its method or materials! The Eagleson Meadows team has built several of these decks with the same level of quality as any other project. Our clients love this new option and we are happy to offer it in our hardscape repertoire. Reach out to us to see how a paver deck could enhance the enjoyment of your backyard.
