We have been in business for 21 years and are lucky enough to have many clients who have us back for landscape refreshes or overhauls. These clients had us out about 15 years ago to redesign their hillside backyard. You can read all about that project on our blog.
Last year, they called us back to change up how they use their outdoor space. Removing an existing deck with a hot tub kicked off the project, allowing for new garden and water viewing areas.
There are multiple strata in the backyard: a deck on the upper level of the house; an outdoor living area from the walk-out basement, a hot tub area, and a vista viewing area. With this new vision for their backyard, we had to ensure that the numerous walkways and steps were seamlessly integrated into the final design.
The entire structure includes two landings, one with about 6 steps down to it, then stone steps to the next landing. The staircase then weaves its way between two garden boxes and then continues down to a sitting area. The handrail is crafted with aircraft cabling – an elegant look for sure.
Our clients were keen to start a vegetable garden, so we installed waist-level raised beds. This semi-enclosed area has enough sun to grow a bounty of veggies while also providing some privacy.
Down from the garden, we created a new mini sitting area made out of flat stones. Since the property is located on a corner with great views of the neighbor’s driveway, we added two panels of decorative fence to create some intimacy.
There was not much room to plant more flora, so we added some simple specimens to start. We will add more perennials next spring. We of course, added some medium-sized boulders to the existing rocks. Additional landscape lighting completed the design.
It is a pleasure to return to a project we did long ago to help our clients make the most of their outdoor space in their new phase of life. We can’t wait to see the vegetables they grow and see pics from the relaxing sitting area. If you are ready to refresh your landscape, give us a call! We’d be happy to help.
