Like many of our clients, our relationship with these homeowners began 15 to 20 years ago. They had brought us on for a small project, but when they decided to go big, they asked us to create a great backyard landscape for them. The design was implemented over the years, and developed their outdoor space into a pleasing and relaxing place for them. Many landscapes, like this one, are the result of long-term development and maintenance.
On our first of many projects, we installed a paver patio in their backyard, laying a bluestone path (also known as slate) to attach the house and patio. Our clients had a yard that started out as a rather plain lawn with several big trees growing randomly throughout it. They had no borders to delineate their yard from their neighbors, and they had little privacy from traffic. With ground cover, plant beds and trees, we created a buffer of foliage around their property line, and we created screening around the patio by planting evergreen trees. As a result, the patio felt enclosed and private. In the beds we planted a variety of flora, choosing plants that would provide color, texture, berry interest and blooms in every season.
Landscapes, even when they are small, residential yards, change over time and often need tweaking, maintenance and additions. For us at Eagleson Landscape, the more time we have with a yard and its owners, the more we can think of ideas to improve it. Over time we saw our clients’ side and front yards could use a bit more color and interest. So, we planted all different kinds of flowering crab trees, about five of them, in these areas. Our clients wanted this particular variety for their seasonal flowers and berry color. Next to the driveway entrance, just behind their mailbox, we planted one of our favorites: a weeping purple beech. This very tall, upright tree adds a lot of character to their yard with its pendulous branches and purple-ish leaves. Also, the beech is perfect for its location—it will not grow wide and hang over the driveway. Around the weeping beech, we planted Wardi, a small yew bush. Its green branches contrast with the tree’s purple leaves during summer, and in winter the green will set a beautiful contrast with the beech’s silvery bark.
Our latest project was adding a walkway from their driveway to the patio. It had been years since we built the patio, but with pavers we could match the patio’s color much more so than if we had used concrete.
Since we began working with this client, we have maintained their landscape, keeping it healthy and beautiful. Our client recently stated, “I trust Eagleson Landscape to take care of our yard; they know our lawn and our house outside so well. They know what our yard needs when it needs it. And needless to say, we really like Eagleson Landscape Company.”
Eagleson Landscape values our long-standing relationships—we are always honored by their referrals and continued requests. We love having the opportunity to watch landscape projects progress and grow with their homeowners, and helping them along the way.
